My mother bought a DVD called War Dance; I HIGHLY recommend it. It was nominated for an Oscar and has won various awards. It's interesting to have watched it with my family, a very Christian religious family. Perhaps I should go into a brief history first...
There is a violant terror group, started about 20 years ago, in Uganda and parts of Sudan called the Lord's Resistance Army. Their goal is a theocratic state based on the 10 Commandments and the Bible. The LRA tortures (like slicing off ears and lips), kills, rapes, among other atrocities, Ugandan civilians of the Acholi tribe. It also enslaves many of the country's children. They train these children to kill and fight in the war. Reports say that more than one million people have been displaced and forced to live in government protected camps.
Tens of thousands have died.
And for what? Theocratic state. This is NO different than an Islamic state that institutes sharia law or, in my opinion, the violence that Israel imparts over the Palestinians.. Society delineates between them. By "society" I mean the Judeo-Christian institution. Islam is violent religion, so say some. Therefore an Islamic state is simply a bad thing. I listened to the explanation that the LRA is "not really Christian." Why? Why aren't they really Christian? Because they kill for their religion?
Christians kill people. They've bombed abortion clinics (google the Army of God), killed innocents in other countries (the LRA, National Liberation Front in India, the IRA in Ireland, etc.) killed based on race (the Aryan Brotherhood & the KKK), etc.
Christianity is not immune to violent tendencies. It is no different than any other religion on this planet. And if the argument that these violent atrocities are committed by people who "aren't really Christian," then Israel isn't really a true Jewish state and the groups Hamas and Hezbollah aren't really Islamic.
Humanity will always kill based on religious ideology. Call me pessimistic, but religion begets violence. It always has. Until people change, it always will.
